Terrible horrible no good very bad day

It's been a hell of a weekend. We live in a part of California that was affected by the blackouts and the heavy winds. Parts of my town were evacuated this morning due to fires, including a very good friend of mine, though we were spared that, thank goodness. But when Alex and I were going to head to the grocery store to stock up just in case, I pulled out of the garage to see that the tree in our front yard was tilting at a 45 degree angle toward the street, and the ground around its roots surged upward with every gust. The damn ground looked like it was breathing.

So shopping got postponed while we tried to stop it from becoming a hazard. We only had a handsaw, so I went to a few of the neighbors to see if anyone had a chainsaw that might do it faster. Nobody did, but one neighbor, M, said his dad did and only lived five minutes away. He took off while I tried calling friends who lived close who might help.

Then, when Craig and Alex had managed to get off the two biggest branches, our 80 y/o female neighbor from across the street came out with her chainsaw. I hadn't even asked her because of all our neighbors, we figured she'd be the last one to own one. Turns out, she is exactly who we need to run to if there's ever a zombie apocalypse of some sort. :)

Anyway, we managed to get the tree down in an hour and a half, leaving it all piled up in pieces in the driveway. The stump is still in the front yard, so we'll have to take make arrangements to get that removed and the yard fixed soon.

To top off my terrible day, I overloaded the rotisserie feature on my air fryer tonight and broke it. I have a galley that's supposed to be done by Tuesday that I haven't had the chance to start. I'm WAY behind on any other writing. Craig and I got into a huge argument with my FIL about politics because apparently we're too hard on Trump, Boris Johnson is the best thing for the UK, and the only news he can rely comes from the Sun. And monthly hormones are determined to kill me.
