BTVS S5, Eps 12-13

Craig was finally home tonight for us to watch a couple more Buffy eps. I've missed it and got completely sucked in, so my commentary is a little sad, lol.

Checkpoint

Favorite Lines
Travers: You used to respect us, Giles. You used to be one of us.
Giles: You used to pay me.

Spike: Heard of me, have you?
Lydia: I... wrote my thesis on you.
Spike: Well, well. Isn't that neat?

Favorite Moment
Hands down, from the moment Buffy walks into the Magic Box for Quentin's "review" all the way to Quentin conceding.

Revelations as I watch
1. All Quentin has to do is open his mouth and my hatred for him swells.
2. The actress playing Lydia has an appalling accent.
3. It's okay, Buffy. I always nearly fell asleep in history, too.
4. I love seeing Giles stand up to Travers for Buffy's sake. Their relationship is one of my favorite parts about S5.
5. I have to give Travers credit, though. He is a master manipulator.
6. Is there any other color in Glory's wardrobe than red? It doesn't look like it.
7. Since Buffy deems Travers too old to hit, I would've loved to see Ripper have a go at him.
8. Oh, man, I love seductive Spike.
9. And yet, he still can't resist making sure Buffy is doing all right in her scores.
10. Buffy's power speech to Travers is one of her absolute best in the entire series. So much has been leading up to this moment, where Buffy truly comes into her own. She started out the episode afraid of the Council. She ended it in charge and unapologetic about who she is and how she does it. This is the Buffy I adore.

Blood Ties

Favorite Lines
Willow: We figured, less killy, more frilly.

Spike: Brown robe types are always protecting something. Only way they can justify giving up girls.

Favorite Moment
Buffy convincing Dawn in the hospital that they really are family, regardless of how long Dawn has been around.

Revelations as I watch
1. I don't agree with the gang that Buffy should've told them about Dawn being the key. Until they knew what they were up against, she had every right to keep them from being targeted.
2. And all this awkwardness around Dawn is exactly why none of them should've been told.
3. Why would Buffy be expecting a card from Riley when they've broken up?
4. I had forgotten it was this episode that gave us the shrill "Get out, get out, get out!"
5. Spike is not wrong in what he says to Buffy. It's good to see him standing up for himself here instead of suffering Buffy's blame. And this truth-telling is what draws Buffy to him. She can rely on it from him. Regardless of whether it's pretty or not.
6. Newsflash, Giles: Dawn is not Oscar the Grouch. You are not going to find her in a closed dumpster.
7. Also, why are they talking about Dawn being the key out in the open where just anybody can hear?
8. I love the definition of evil Glory gives, that it all depends on your POV.
9. I take perverse pleasure in Glory calling Spike Buffy's boyfriend.
