The Yoko Factor

Favorite Lines
Riley: Well, there you go. Even when he's good, he's all Mr. Billowy Coat King of Pain.

Giles: What ever happened to Latin? At least when that made no sense, the church approved.

Favorite Moments
All of the Drunk!Giles stuff

Revelations as I watch
1. The fact that Riley didn't even suspect Buffy and Angel had had sex feels like more proof that Riley never really knew her.
2. I forgot Giles sang again! I don't believe Freebird is really his style, but the lyrics say it all.
3. Miss Kitty Fantastico: the precursor to all the cute kitten vids everybody is enamored with now.
4. I know the drama class reference is meant as foreshadowing of Restless, but after all her previous fears, it really doesn't seem like the kind of class Willow would consider. Though I suppose it's meant to show how she's gaining confidence.
5. Gee, Angel spun Buffy's head a little? What else is not new?
6. Now I want to know why the phone sex line hates Anya so much.
7. Spike is just so damn good at making all his little lies about what everybody said behind the others' back sound so natural.
8. Riley and Angel getting all territorial is icky and frustrating. Buffy breaking them up is perfect.
9. Drunk!Giles is the best. His inner teenaged boy comes out.
10. Giles stripping and throwing his clothes onto Xander is hysterical.

Favorite Lines
Willow: Nervous?
Xander: No way. I'm full of that good old kamikaze spirit.
Rupert: Xander, just because this is never gonna work is no need to be negative.

Favorite Moments
Buffy being the Super Slayer.

Revelations as I watch
1. It's curious to think about how Maggie managed to implant a chip in Riley's chest without his knowledge. Or a scar.
2. Anya's direction to Xander to just get over it echoes how way too easily these four sweep all their problems under the rug. Again.
3. Zombie!Maggie is way creepier than an alive Maggie.
4. Forrest is now literally the bad guy he's been playing at all season.
5. Oh, look, it's the land of denial amongst the Scoobies again.
6. Spike fighting in slo-mo will never not be fun.
7. I love Super Buffy in this.
8. Yay for Graham surviving!

Favorite Lines
Snyder: I walked by your guidance counselor's office one time. A bunch of you were sitting there, waiting to be shepherded. I remember it smelled like dead flowers, like decay. Then it hit me. The hope of our nation's future is a bunch of mulch.
Xander: You know, I never got the chance to tell you how glad I was you were eaten by a snake.

Favorite Moments
The scene with Snyder.

Revelations as I watch
1. Unpopular opinion: I really don't like this episode. It fails to work on any kind of emotional level for me except to wish it was over. I've never been able to get past the fact that it comes across as too try hard to be thinky. But full disclosure, I have a distaste for overintellectualizing pop culture in general. I know there's a place for it. I know it's warranted in some cases. I don't enjoy it.
2. It's also not a gateway episode for non-watchers. Back when we were watching it and so in love, we happened to be at my BIL's house when a Buffy rerun came on. BIL suggested we watch it so he could see why I loved it so much. Both he and my SIL were completely unimpressed and to this day fail to understand why I love Buffy so much.
3. People have suggested to me that if I watch it with the Joss commentary, I'd appreciate it more. For the record, I have, but more importantly, I think if something has to be explained while I'm watching, the creator has failed in his/her job. The art should be able to stand on its own.
4. Of all the dreams, I relate to Willow's the most.
5. Man, I forgot how hot Willow and Tara are in Xander's dream.
6. Of all the dream bits in this whole show, the most brilliant touch is Snyder in the Kurtz role from Apocalypse Now. Because Armin Shimerman sells it so damn well.
7. Okay, I do enjoy watching Spike in B&W being all show-offy. His poses are fabulous.
8. And we do get Giles singing again. That's a plus. Seriously. So damn hot.
9. Tara's line, "Be back before Dawn," feels like one of the the most obvious foreshadowing Joss has ever done.
10. George Hertzberg seems so much younger without the make-up.
