Just in time

Looks like I watched BlackKKlansman just in time, considering how many Oscar nominations it got today. I'm glad to finally see Spike Lee get a directing nomination. That is way overdue. I was, however, a little surprised to see Adam Driver get a supporting actor nod. He was good, yes, but there were a lot of really good performances this year. I'm not sure I would've put him in my top five. Seeing Sam Elliott, there, however...oh my yes.

I haven't seen a lot of the big movies yet - Vice, The Favourite, Roma, to name a few - but I'm hoping to change that in the coming weeks. I blew off the Oscars last year because of real life stuff. This year, I'm going to be more on top of it. This is my Super Bowl, after all.

Snubs that annoy me, though? Two of them. Won't You Be My Neighbor? was cheated out of a best documentary nom, and A Quiet Place deserved more than a sound editing nom. It was just a brilliant piece of genre filmmaking, from start to finish.

In other news, please keep your fingers crossed for me. There is a serious lack of senior citizens auditioning for our festival tomorrow and Thursday. If we don't get people in, I'll have to switch to a different play, a farce that I don't love nearly as much. I'd rather not, but I want to stay involved. So here's hoping someone shows up at the last minute.
