AUTHOR: Molly Harper
DATE FINISHED: January 11
BLURB: Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stone’s throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valley’s pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg. Maggie just can’t seem to convince Nick to leave...and even worse, she can’t convince herself to stay away from him. Cross-species dating is problem enough for a harried alpha female, but on top of that, a rival group of werewolves is trying to move into the valley. With interpack war threatening, Maggie can’t afford to be distracted. Combining romance and a career can be tough for anyone; for a werewolf in love with a human, it may be disastrous...
REVIEW: Humor is so subjective, especially in print. I don't tend to read a lot of it unless I'm familiar with the author or something gets glowing reviews. I read the first book in this series last year, based on reviews, and absolutely fell in love with the heroine. It was told in 1st POV, and she was absolutely delightful. I knew coming into this book who the heroine would be as she's the bitchy sister of the hero from the first novel. I didn't like her in that story, but since these are told in 1st POV, I had high hopes that the author would win me over. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I never warmed to this heroine. I tried getting invested in the hero--he falls into the gorgeous geek category--but he was as bland as the heroine was annoying. Even the so-called plot about who is harassing her was lame. I only finished it because I enjoyed the first one so much. I kept hoping it would get better. It didn't. I'm not giving up on this author, though. I'm going to pick up the third book in this series and keep my fingers crossed I get a taste of the same magic I found in the first.
