Rectober Post #15 - Hunger Games

Title:Regrets Only
Author: c_r_roberts
Pairing(s): Katniss/Peeta, Katniss/Gale
Rating: NC17
Word Count: 21,079
Warnings: None
Summary: I’m not sure how long we lay there like that, naked and entangled together. I think I even drift in and out of a light sleep, because the next thing I know, it’s the middle of the night and Peeta’s stirring beside me. When I open my eyes to him, it doesn’t look like he’s slept at all. The fire crackles in the old stone hearth, and the scent of smoke and pine and cold musty air fills the room. “Don’t get married,” Peeta suddenly tells me, his voice soft, but urgent. My heart breaks at the earnestness in his eyes. “At least not to Gale.”

Why I loved it: The summary on this doesn't really say what it's about. Basically, it's a what if scenario where neither Peeta nor Katniss were reaped and their lives went on as they were. It starts several years later, where Katniss and Gale are engaged. Why did I love it? Because it's complete wish fulfillment. Katniss and Peeta feel authentic in this situation, and it shows how they could still find their way to each other without the trauma of the Games. What's going on with Gale feels plausible, and the emotions are raw and confusing and real.
