Fic recs

So...I've been reading more fic than I ever used to. But instead of limiting it to one or two fandoms, I've got a list of almost ninety that I'm dipping into. I only read every night until I find something I like enough to leave kudos, and since I'm so picky, I figured I'd rec what I liked that much.

Inked (4561 words) by what_alchemy
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Breakfast Club (1985)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: John Bender/Brian Johnson
Characters: Brian Johnson, John Bender
Additional Tags: Self-Harm, Tattoos, Drugs, Addiction
Summary:

Twenty years.

Five tattoos.

Comments: The writing in this is fantastic, gritty and tense and blistering, and the emotions so genuine and raw that it was impossible not to get all caught up in Brian's arc.

The Arthurian Way Of Doing The Stuff (2113 words) by pitchblackdarkness
Chapters: 1/?
Fandom: Merlin (TV), Friends
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Merlin/Arthur Pendragon (Merlin), Gwen/Lancelot (Merlin), Gwaine/Merlin (Merlin), Leon/Morgana (Merlin), Gwen/Lancelot/Morgana (Merlin), Morgana/Morgause (Merlin), Cenred/Morgause (Merlin), Gwaine/Percival (Merlin), Gwaine/Merlin/Arthur Pendragon (Merlin)
Characters: Arthur Pendragon (Merlin), Merlin (Merlin), Gwaine (Merlin), Morgana (Merlin), Gwen (Merlin), Gaius (Merlin), Leon (Merlin), Lancelot (Merlin), Percival (Merlin), Morgause (Merlin), Cenred (Merlin)
Additional Tags: University Merlin
Summary:

There's three apartments, nine humans, a disgruntled, psychopathic neighbour, a slightly bizarre barista and a coffee shop in which they live most of their lives. It sounds more normal than it is.

Comments: I'll be the first to admit that my reading in Merlin fandom is very, very narrow, so it's entirely possible there are other fics that do a Friends fusion but I haven't read one before this. I laughed all the way through this, because it all felt so damn plausible. Though the author says she might keep going, it stands alone.

Other Virtues (2626 words) by miss_pryss
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Sneakers (1992)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Erwin "Whistler" Emory, Martin Bishop, Donald Crease, Liz (Sneakers), Carl Arbogast, Darryl "Mother" Roskow
Series: Part 1 of Other Virtues
Summary:

Nobody expected a respectable businessman to drive a van blind.

All of which is to say, Whistler was not so very disappointed when everything went belly up again.

Comments: I hold a special place in my heart for this movie, and Whistler is a big part of this. I love how true this felt to the movie and characters, especially since it's an ensemble piece. There's a companion slash piece that goes to this, but I'll be honest. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as this one.

Unfinished Business (Stays That Way For A Reason) (908 words) by ikebukuro
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Revolution (TV)
Rating: Mature
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Miles Matheson/Bass Monroe
Characters: Miles Matheson, Sebastian "Bass" Monroe
Additional Tags: PWP, Plot What Plot, Porn Without Plot, Existential Smut, short fic
Summary:

They're always going to be loose ends for each other—the unfinished business they can't bring themselves to wrap up. (Or: Bass ran as far as he could to get out from under the sudden takeover of the Republic and Miles finds himself too often, by accident or fate, just a step behind him.)

Comments: All right, I know Revolution is flawed. I know the science is dodgy. But the show gets to me anyway, in a large part because of the very complicated relationship between Miles and Monroe. There is no plot here. It's just pure porn, but gorgeously written and true to how complex these guys really are. Loved it.

$20,000 (4987 words) by SuedeScripture
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Star Trek RPF, Actor RPF
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Chris Pine/Zachary Quinto
Characters: Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Neil Patrick Harris, Mila Kunis, Seth MacFarlane
Additional Tags: Crack, Bachelor Auction, Fluff and Angst, silliness
Summary:

If only they had a free evening to figure this out before Zach goes to New York and Chris is off to be Prince Charming.

Comments: This is frickin' adorable. RPF is tough for me, and I don't even necessarily find Pine or Quinto appealing outside of their characters, but this worked for me.

Working on the Sequel (1046 words) by jouissant
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies)
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: James T. Kirk/Spock
Characters: James T. Kirk, Spock
Additional Tags: Alternate Universe
Summary:

"Please, Spock, like I’m going to call up our agent and beg for tickets to your reading when you won’t even return my calls?"

Spock sighed. “I have been busy,” he said weakly.

"Bullshit," Jim grumbled into his drink. He looked up at Spock, smiling too wide. "But hey, maybe that’s the life of a bestselling author," he said. "I wouldn’t know."

Comments: A charming little fic, and I don't even like 99% of stories where one of the leads is an author (I can never shake the feeling that it's author insertion).
