And I'm allowing myself a squee moment, so if you'd rather not be forced to listen to my self-indulgence, just skip the following...
I hate tooting my own horn. It makes me extremely uncomfortable and generally speaking, I think I pretty much suck at it. That's the primary reason why I don't generally announce when I get nominations or awards for my writing. However, the announcement of the FMYA results yesterday is making me change that philosophy for just today. Two reasons why: I have a soft spot for the FMYA awards (they were the very first award I was ever nominated for nearly a year ago and I still don't know who did it) and because of the award I got.
I don't consider myself a writer. I'm going to say that straight up, and I'm totally serious about it. If you ask me, I will always call myself a storyteller, and it just so happens that my current method of expressing it is through Spuffy fanfic. In the past, it's been through other ways---a couple years of video editing, a bit of film production, writing of plays and screenplays, and acting since I was 14. Given the choice of how I'd make my living, writing wouldn't even be my first option. It doesn't mean I don't enjoy it, or that it doesn't rate as one of my favorite means of expression. I do, and it does. But I'm more than aware of my limitations in this medium, and I have huge respect for the fanfic writers I can see who surpass me in these areas. It's one of the reasons why I started the LLG awards.
So color me shocked and surprised and absolutely delighted when I see the list of FMYA winners, and I have somehow snagged Best S/B Writer. The other winners are tremendous---
Now aren't you glad you bothered to read this cut? Ha. Not. ;)
