You know, sometimes I really miss the insular corner of fandom I lived in, the one where all I did was write and read fic and deliberately stayed away from wankery and canon debates and all that. The more I write, the more exposed I am to just how many judgmental people there are out there, and it's all so frustrating. These are blogs that aren't judgments against me specifically. It's just the general attitude of "my way is the only way and if you don't agree, you're an idiot" that I find so frustrating.

It's not just the writing world. It's everywhere. I've just always been lucky enough to be able to ignore most of it most of the time.

I certainly have my own opinions. And yes, I often feel that people who don't agree are idiots. But I try my hardest not to get into debates because I fully recognize I am not going to change most people's minds. It's a waste of energy to try. And if I'm not trying to change their mind, then what possible purpose could I have in instigating the debate in the first place? Some people argue for the sake of arguing, which is fine. I'm not one of them. And I tend to lose my patience with those kind of people very quickly.

Of course, just posting about this is mildly ironic, though I have no desire to debate the issue with anyone. I'm just venting, because I've read yet another blog about yet another topic where the writer makes a unilateral complaint regarding a genre and thinks they're completely right and any dissenting voice is an idiot.

Which makes me consider that person an idiot. Ha. Perhaps that's not ironic, but hypocritical instead. I don't know. I'm too tired and annoyed to figure it out right now.
