Friday night...

You know, I know there are going to be others who do this better and more thoroughly than I do, but still, I'm here, telling my impressions of the evening. Take of it what you will. :)

Tonight was the special stuff for the Premium ticket holders. The night was scheduled to consist of a cocktail party, lasting 90 minutes that would have James mingling, then dinner, lasting 2 hours where he would go from table to table, and then an acoustic concert. And mostly, that's what we got.

First of all, everybody looked gorgeous. What a great feeling to knock on your friends' door and have them open up it up to, "Oh my god, you look amazing!" Such a kick in the pants after being a mom so much of my time. But really, everybody looked great. There were a few truly beautiful dresses and nothing godawful. Trust me. I worried there would be. :)

The room the cocktail party was supposed to be in got hot far too quickly. To top it all off, James was late. So after James finally got there, Steve said that after James said hi to us and got our minute or two of talking, for us to go into the nice, air conditioned hall where we'd be eating dinner. *Much* nicer. Plus, to make it even better, James did two rounds around the tables. What that meant though, was that we got shuffled slightly in going in. I happened to be talking to Xio and Denny when James arrived, so I stuck with them while he did his initial rounds. Then they got a better sightline table for the dinner/concert, so I ended up eating with them, too. Good decision in the long run.

James was his usual charming self. So quick to recognize faces and so effusive in his praises. He was one strict orders to not hug or kiss, and complained good-naturedly to us that he was his own worst enemy. He looks thinner to me, but that might have been the tux. He looked good in it, but it's obvious he's not comfortable in such wear. Poor guy. He must have been baking. I was in a sleeveless dress and dying from the heat.

I'm not even sure what I could tell you we talked about when he came around. I know there was talk about proms, and he told us that he was supposed to meet with Rickey Lee Jones' producer. Oh, and he remembered Xionin and told her he keeps her CD in rotation and that she's amazing. But then we knew that. :) I think my problem is that I had two glasses of wine without having eaten anything since breakfast. I was a trifle tipsy. And Denny and I kept talking to each other and drowning out James for Xionin because she was sitting between us.

I got a few pictures, but I'm unsure how they turned out. I do know that Xio got some gorgeous ones, and the lovely English woman who was sitting near me has one that I took on her camera that I really want to get from her. James looks really good, though, yeah, a little thin to me. And the hair was not his best. Slicked back, not a trace of curl. Doesn't the man understand we *like* the curl?

The concert was OK, but I'll be honest. I'm not a fan of James' music. For me, it's about his acting, not his singing. I was content to sit in the back and take a few pictures and listen. And race to get out at the end, because between the two glasses of wine I had before dinner, the 2 glasses of wine I had *at* dinner, and the 3 glasses of water, I *really* had to use the bathroom, lol. So what did I do? As soon as we could, I bolted out, and then promptly ran into James in the stairwell, lol. Oops. Oh well. :)

Photos are first thing in the morning. I'm going to be done with mine very early because I'm ticket 5 and they go in groups of 16. So I'm going to put on my fancy dress and pose, and then later I'm going to thank James for getting me writing again. I brought print copies of "Chains of Jericho" to give him, Jane and David, because they're big reasons why I've been published. If it wasn't for them, I never would have picked up the proverbial pen again. There will never be enough for me to repay them that.
