The beginning of the empty nest

Today was Alicia's first day of school. She was excited about it, waking up half an hour early and dragging Alex out of bed with her to help her get ready. I, on the other hand, was sick to my stomach. For whatever reason, I slept very poorly last night, with dreams that we were late on her first day and the school told us she couldn't attend for various and sundry reason. We got her there with minimal fuss, ran into somebody we didn't realize lived in Castro Valley (and whose daughter was also starting kindergarten today), and then got home so that Craig could go off to work. He'd specifically chosen to go in late so that he didn't miss her first day. Isn't he wonderful?

As soon as it was just me and Alex, though, my body finally got back at me, and I promptly threw up. I didn't cry, though, so I'm taking comfort in that. :)

Alicia had a wonderful day, coming home chattering on about her new friends and the like. I spent the good part of the day unable to settle, having to field Alex's constant, "Where's Alicia?" Thank goodness he goes back to nursery next week. He's *way* too used to Alicia being around and misses her if he's not properly distracted.

Tomorrow will be better. I just thought all my first day jitters were behind me. :)
