And finally went to see Pirates of the Caribbean last night...
...and I'm not sure what the big deal was all about. Don't get me wrong. We didn't hate it. We just kind of walked out of the theater going, "Was that it?"
Maybe it was all the hullabaloo. That happened with me and Titanic. By the time I got around to seeing Titanic in the theater, it had already become a huge hit and I found myself halfway through the movie just wanting to scream at the screen, "Will you just go on and die already?" Maybe I had just had extremely high expectations because of all the great things I kept hearing about PotC.
Not that I didn't enjoy myself. The sfx were amazing. And I still stand by my belief that Johnny Depp is one of the most underrated Hollywood actors currently working. The man buries himself in his characters. Although I found some of his affectations a little extreme, not once did I sit there thinking I was watching JD. I saw Jack Sparrow. Who was, by far, the most interesting thing in the whole movie.
The romantic subplot? To harken back to my 80's teenage years. Gag me with a spoon. Yuck yuck yuck. And some of the minor characters were just plain irritating.
But I still had fun. All credit for that goes to Johnny Depp. I'd do him. :)
Hell. I'd even do Jack Sparrow. :)
