mood - rock on (clem)

Where I brag about my daughter

I'm an uber-proud mom right now.

Last year, Alicia and her BFF started a computer science club at their high school because it didn't already have one. It was tough last year since they were freshmen and still trying to learn all the ins and outs, but this year started off on a stronger foot. It's paying off.

In the fall, they entered a contest to send a satellite into space. They had to come up with experiments their satellite would conduct and write up a proposal outlining their plans. The idea they chose was Alicia's.

Turns out, they were selected! The organization, Ardusat, chose 15 schools from all over the nation, and they were one of them. What makes this even better, other than the fact that they've built this up without much help from their school (it's more concerned with making sure kids graduate, not necessarily that they are challenged), is that most of the other schools that were picked are private schools or in wealthy areas.

I'm so proud of her. She's known she's wanted to be involved in aerospace in some way ever since she was ten, and is working her tail off to get into MIT so that she can get into robotics. I have no doubt she's going to make it.
