New writer's group

So. Last night was a new thing for me. I went to that writer's group.

It's not one of those critique each other's work groups. You wouldn't catch me at one of those in a million years. It's a shut-up-and-write group, where we chat for 15 minutes, then just work for an hour. It's meant to be a specific block of time for people to just do it. Maybe not necessarily people like me who write as much as I do, but that doesn't mean it wasn't productive for me, too.

I almost didn't go. An hour before, I was sick to my stomach at the thought of it and desperately searching for an excuse. When the kids asked if I was bringing dinner home with me (it was at Panera), I realized I could take them with me. Not to sit in the group, but we arrived early and I bought them dinner, and then they sat at a table I could see. They worked on homework and played on their ipads while I was in the meeting then. It all worked out really well.

And it didn't completely suck. The group was small, 7 people, most of them older than me. I really liked the group organizer, but there's one guy who was there early who is one of those overly talking know-it-alls who have to contribute anything and everything regardless if it's relevant. He's going to get annoying fast, but I know better than to engage him for next time.

It's going to meet every Tuesday, so I'm going to try it out for a while. I totally suck at putting myself out there to meet new people, and I hate that. It helped that later when we were on our video call, Craig made a point of telling me how proud he was of me. That always matters.
