Sometimes news gives me hope, too

In the midst of all the bad news in regards to gay rights recently, there are glimmers of hope. Today, President Obama mandated hospitals allow partners in same-sex relationships both visitation rights and the ability to share medical power of attorney.

It's a step. It's not everything they should have, but it's most definitely a move in the right direction. Now, loving partners don't have to bear the stress at not being able to visit during times of crisis or illness. They don't have to be separated when their support is most important. They can have a basic right afforded to other couples automatically, based purely on their gender.

Sometimes, things can go very, very right. And on days like that, I'm hopeful that the world my children will grow up into will be one I'm proud of.
