(no subject)

I love my brother-in-law to death.

Ian and I have been good friends ever since we first met. Even if I'd never met Craig, I have no doubt that Ian is someone I would've been close to, regardless of the circumstances of our meeting. I haven't had nearly enough time to visit with him this time, though, and he knows nothing about what's been going on between me and his mum.

So, he and Ian's wife Helen are over for a visit. They are babysitting friends 2 y/o daughter as the friends needed to go to a funeral, and thought Libby would like to play with Alicia and Alex. Somehow the conversation turns to badly behaved children. I promptly ran into the kitchen so that I wouldn't be in the middle of it. I heard it, though. And I could see it. I just didn't want to be caught in the crossfire.

Ian: I don't care. It all comes back to the mum. If the mum's a bad apple, nine times out of ten, it's going to rub off on the kids.
MIL: Well, that's not always the case.
Ian: (ignoring his mum because he's on a roll) The opposite is true, too. Look at Alex and Alicia. They're probably the best behaved kids I've ever seen, and that's all because Sigrid is such a great mum. They wouldn't be half as good as they are if she wasn't doing such a fantastic job.

The MIL didn't say a word at that, but I couldn't help but smile.

Have I mentioned how much I love my brother-in-law? :)

I just had to sneak away to post this. They're all eating lunch now, so I've got a few minutes where I won't get sniped at.
