Toothy matters

I swear to God, I'm living in dentists' offices these days.

This morning was Alicia and Alex's first visits to the appointment. We were braced for the worst as Alex screams getting his hair cut and still fights us on brushing his teeth. And would you believe it, but he was good as gold for the whole thing? So why is it he's OK with someone playing around in his mouth, which is a hell of a lot more sensitive, than he is getting his hair cut? Silly boy.

I have less than a week to get ready for the in-laws arrival. I've already told Craig that Alex is getting his hair cut and we're cleaning all weekend. I know I'm being paranoid, but there's so much stuff that has to get done, and that's not even counting any of the fandom stuff I'm committed to. At least I have most of the Christmas shopping done. All I have left to do is wrap mostly. That's one thing off my list.

Awards pimping

A few fanfic award announcements tonight:

1. The Bedtime Story Awards are conducting their 2004 Reader's Choice Round. The Bedtime Story Awards are for short stories under 2500 words, so not heavy reading if you haven't read many of the stories. This goes through until January 22, 2005, with winners announced February 1, 2005. I'll admit, I'd forgotten about this particular award site after psubrat told me about it, but then some wonderful soul went and nominated my single short story, "Shower of Ash" (I won! Yippee!) and I became reacquainted with the site again. The nice thing about the nominee page is that any pairings are listed so if you don't want to read it because of a pairing, you have warning. Go. Vote. :) And yes, "Shower of Ash" is up in the Nightmare (dark/dramatic fiction) category.

2. sadbhyl's Walk with Heroes Awards has just started a new round. This is for all the non-ship fic out there, so support your favorite non-ship stories by going over and nominating. :)

3. There are only 3 days left in voting over at the Spuffy Awards. All Spuffy, all the time, completely picked by you, the reader. Go. Vote. :)
