Ficathon questions

So...I'm trying to distract myself from my mood by burying myself in my writing. Big surprise there. However, I am *not* in a place where I can write the opening of the next Legions chapter so I decided to start the serious outline of my Spuffy ficathon assignment.

Now, I'd already asked sadbhyl about this, but I'm torn again. See, I really love my assignment; it gave me a lot of leeway in coming up with ideas. And I came up with the angle I wanted fairly early. Only thing is, as is typical of my bunnies, it's grown. Not to the same extent as one of my novel-length fics (though, if I let it, it very easily could), but it very much will exceed the 1000-word minimum. In fact, at its current outline, it's already 4 chapters, which for this fic should be about 12,000 words. I know sadbhyl said not to worry about the length, as long as it was something I could do, but am I the only one who thinks this is excessive? Should I scrap the idea and try for something else? If I don't, what happens if it grows even more?
