So, I decided...enough was enough. I've been going nonstop for well over a week now, and though there was stuff I had to get done today, I opted to take it easy instead. So, I went back to bed when Craig went into the office at 8 and got a couple more hours of sleep.
At lunchtime, Craig came home so that we could go to the airport and finally pick up the bag that got left on the carousel. We were going to exchange the car then but couldn't find the agreement anyplace, so decided to do it after instead. It was definitely going to happen, too, because the stupid thing wouldn't even start for us when we first got into the car. It took us 5 minutes to get it going.
I treated myself to more decompression time in the afternoon, too. After getting acquainted with my new washer and dryer, I was finally able to get onto my laptop (my power was in the bag at the airport, so I've been without my laptop for a few days now) and transcribe what I'd written. I wish I could update my fics because I have completed chapters, but that's just not possible right now. It's going to be tricky enough updating LLGA in 6 days when the next round starts.
We got the car exchanged OK, except they gave us a Lincoln Towncar in place of the Endeavour, which really, really sucks. The thing is a boat, and means we didn't have the room to take home the TV and DVD player we wanted to get at Best Buy, a fact we didn't realize until after we'd already spent 2 hours at the store. At least I picked up a couple CD's.
You know what the hardest part of everything has been so far? Being so utterly cut off from civilization, it feels like. The house still doesn't have a phone connection, I can only get onto the internet from Craig's work afterhours, and we don't have a TV yet (let alone cable or satellite), so the house is not only deadly silent all day, but I can't find anything out in the outside world without going to extremes to make it happen. It's just so damn weird.
Plus, the sound insulation in the house is eerie. When someone is upstairs, you cannot hear them downstairs without going to the stairwell, and then it's only faint. Though it bodes well for the kids when they arrive, right now it's freaky as shit to be surrounded by so much absolute silence all the time. I've been trying to figure out how to get some noise going on in the house, but to no avail so far. We tried the TV route tonight, but that was no go until we can hit Mark up for the use of his pick-up. And we already have a stereo on the way so I can't really justify getting another one when there are other, more important things I could and should be buying. I do have a portable CD player, but using it when I'm trying to get stuff done is just too annoying. I keep going down to the garage and sitting in the car for 5 minutes at a time just to listen to the radio or CD player. I am truly sad. ;)
But, most importantly, I want to say thank you to all the wonderful people on my friends list. Without you guys and all your support, this would be a lot tougher than it already is. Your comments are helping me feel connected to everything, and the fact that you're even reading all my whingeing just amazes me to no end. *hugs friends list* I love you all. :)
