I have two small comments to add about the fic. In the beginning, I forgot to mention that the fic is also Nicholas/Danny (of the Hot Fuzz portion). My apologies for that. It's getting added to the summaries, and when we hit their NC17 section in chapter 6, I'll remind you again, in case slash isn't your thing. Also, based on the outline Pepper and I have, we're estimating between 17 and 20 chapters total. 7 of those are done already, and it's writing quickly.

In spite of somehow picking up some sort of food bug that has leveled me since I posted this morning, I managed to get the first chapter of my Art Before Fic challenge up over at spuffy_haven. Mostly, because I promised pepperlandgirl4 I'd start posting it today. She agreed to co-write it with me when real life threatened to take it away from me, so surprise surprise, we've done a BtVS/Hot Fuzz crossover. You don't need to have seen the movie to understand the story, though. Of that, I'm pretty sure.

( Chapter 1 )

We start the drive back to California today. We're taking a different route this time, to go visit my sister in Tulsa and her new baby, and should be home on Sunday night. That gives me Monday to do laundry and pack for flying to the UK on Tuesday.

Also, pepperlandgirl4 is collaborating with me for my - our - contribution for spuffy_haven. We have two chapters done already, and will likely start posting that on Sunday.

Now I'm off to finish packing...

Update on me:

1. pepperlandgirl4 is now at Oakland Airport, awaiting her flight home. We had a *very* productive week. In 8 days of writing, we did 73k, and we only have 6 chapters left, all plot and climax stuff. The book will easily be done by the middle of the next week, giving us another week to edit and plenty of time to meet our deadline of the end of the month. We even have a provisional title, Touching Silver. I say provisional, only because Juno changed our last title on us and I'm not holding my breath on anything any more, lol.

2. Pepper being gone means I have to catch up on all the house stuff I let slide while she was here, lol.

3. American Idol last night. Boggled.

4. America's Next Top Model last night. Called that one after the first two shoots.

5. We also watched Music and Lyrics last night. Charming, but for Hugh Grant and not the romance part of it. I never bought them as a couple. And the opening and closing videos had me in stitches. Next on the Netflix queue is Mrs. Brown. Craig and I have always wanted to see it, but just never got around to it. After the nihilism of The Machinist and romcom of M&L, a quiet period drama sounds delightful.

6. I'll be getting back to fic writing gradually over the next week. I'm writing my spuffy_haven fic before I get to Soul, though. My only problem is that katekat1010 offered up a banner of Giles and Faith at darker_spike that I adored the first time she posted it. Seeing it again makes me want to write something there. She is evil, I tell you. So so talented, but still evil.

7. Other than that...yeah, I got nothing. My life is so boring. :P

I'm posting before my day explodes on me, just to let people know that I'm alive. Random bits from my life -

1. Mother's Day was wonderful, though I spent an hour making a chocolate cherry cheesecake for dinner. I could have gotten something from the bakery, but it was a good excuse to try this recipe, especially since pepperlandgirl4 is here to help eat it. Among the highlights was Alicia's certificate that said she vowed to help take care of her brother and Alex's note that said his mommy was special because "she is always right and I am always wrong." I couldn't stop giggling over those. I hope all the moms on my list had a wonderful day!

2. Pepper and I have reached 46k on our Chasing Silver sequel which still needs a title. That's about the halfway point. We're right on track with where we thought/where we need to be.

3. Watched The Machinist last night. Needed therapy afterward to watch the only other Christian Bale movie I own, Newsies. I'm going to have the soundtrack going through my head all day now.

4. Next on the Netflix queue is Music and Lyrics, because we missed it in the theaters. Don't laugh at me! It's Hugh Grant as an 80's Andrew Ridgley! And I laughed hysterically at the snippets I saw in the trailers. I was so disappointed we didn't go see it when it was in the theaters.

5. I will be returning to my fanfic once Pepper and I have this book done, I promise. However, there will be a bit more of a delay on A Soul to Seduce. I have to write the fic for the banner I claimed at the Art Before Fic challenge at spuffy_haven. Don't worry, it's not a huge long monster. As it currently stands, it should only be 5 or 6 chapters. I refused to let the bunny get away from me.

Monday. A new week, a new start. Maybe I won't feel like I'm drowning this week, though I'm not sure.

So, I saw a few someones on my flist this weekend posting WIP's in response to wip_amnesty. Apparently, they declared this an amnesty weekend on those stories languishing on our hard drives. Which got me thinking about one I have. It's one I've had on my hard drive for...a year and a half. And I'm torn for the following reasons:

1. It's only got 3 chapters completed (chapter 4 is only partially done).
2. It's *hugely* indulgent. As far as premises go, I pretty much ripped off myself in order to have fun.
3. The plot is...thin. It's a gimmick fic. I'll be the first person to admit that.
4. But it makes me laugh and smile to re-read and think about.

So a week in Vegas didn't screw up my diet too much. As of this morning, I am officially where I was before I left, so yay. :) And things are back on track now, foodwise, so I imagine smaller numbers in the weeks to come. At least until my next trip in March. ;)

Craig is leaving for India today. I have to take him to the airport in 2 hours. He'll be gone for 9 days but I've got a lot to do this week, so hopefully the time will fly.

So...I've started edits on my latest book at LSB. And it's proving a bear. Would people be upset if there wasn't a Soul update on Wednesday this week?

Oh! pepperlandgirl4 and I got the preliminary cover art for our book that's going straight to print next fall. The editor has posted it on her blog. The artist captured Remy *perfectly*. Pepper and I understand better now why our hero is so distracted by her, lol. It's also getting that urban street feel that we've got in the book. We're really, really pleased. :)

Well, Craig and I are heading home today. This vacation has been *so* therapeutic for me. Tons of time to relax, not think about mundane stuff, write, experience new things. I flew in a helicopter for the first time, taking the tour out to the Grand Canyon and was astounded at how much fun it was. Last night, we finally got to see Toni Braxton, and Craig got a fanboy moment and a photo when Toni sat on his lap during one of the songs. I got to fangirl for a few moments over Penn. We saw movies galore (including Dreamgirls, which, while flawed, proved Jennifer Hudson deserved her Golden Globe the other night). I got to see wonderful internet friends, and meet _sharvie_'s gorgeous husband for the first time. And I'm dying to see my kids again. That's a good sign. :)

Writing-wise, I managed to get another chapter of Soul written, a novella that pepperlandgirl4 and I edited and submitted to Liquid Silver, a chapter on my vampire 3some book done, and pepperlandgirl4 and I got bit by a new, very rabid bunny that we're going to start writing on Friday. Not too bad considering I'm supposed to be on vacation.

The airport has wireless internet access so I'm going to get on there and finally respond to all the comments from the last chapter. If for some reason I can't, that's likely to happen tomorrow instead. We don't fly for another 7.5 hours, but we're staying in the hotel until as close to checkout as we can to get stuff done. Which means now I have to go pack. :)

The family's back. The kids had a blast. They went to bed last night and 2 hours later, Alicia was up, vomiting. Poor thing's stomach couldn't take all the different food, excitement, and driving. But she's better now, thank goodness.

Today is going to be a lazy day. pepperlandgirl4 and I got 17k done on our story in total, with only 2 chapters left, but she's gone this weekend so I'm left to writing Soul and editing. Checking my e-mail this morning, I saw that I got a review for Promise of Frost over at Just Rewards. It was a lovely review from someone who's always been hugely supportive of my work, but I'll admit, Frost is probably one of my least favorite of all my stories. For lots of reasons, but the point is, I haven't really re-read it (except when I had to skim a few chapters for that little Christmas ficlet I wrote) since it was finished. On a whim, I went and looked at the chapter following the one that got reviewed. And found myself giggling like a madwoman over some of the exchanges. Is it bad to be so amused by my own work? Does that make me vain? But look, it was stuff like this...

The shock jumped from nowhere, sizzling her skin so that she jerked free from his grasp. “What is it?” she asked before tentatively stretching a fingertip out again. “Please tell me it’s not magic.”

He waited until she was shocked again, and rolled his eyes as she repeated the yank backwards. “All right, Pavlov,” he drawled, “it’s not magic. ‘Cept we both know it is.”

And this...

"You’re just bound and determined to keep me off my feet, aren’t you, Spike?” She regretted it as soon as it came out of her mouth, the innuendo obvious even to her, and prayed to God that the vamp wouldn’t take her up on it.

Obviously, God was on a coffee break.

Blue eyes raked over her body, slowing over her hips before falling to her boots half-buried in the snow. “Could carry you back, I s’pose,” he mused, almost nonchalantly though the huskiness of his voice betrayed more than she thought he wanted. “’Specially since it’s startin’ to seem you’re a bit partial to bein’ in my arms---.”

“Ha!” Buffy snorted. “If I remember correctly, I was the one who kicked you off the couch this morning.”

His gaze returned then, and though he hadn’t moved any closer to her, his intent seemed only inches away. “And if I remember correctly,” he said, “you were also the one who insisted I get on it.”

“Delirious, remember?” She swallowed the lump that had formed in her throat, but kept her chin strong.

“And here I thought you just had good taste.” He paused, cocking his head. “Oh, wait. You dated Angel and the Joyless Wonder. Well, that knocks that theory out of the water. Let’s just go back to wantin’ me, shall we?”

“Let’s not.”

“Can’t really blame you, I s’pose. Been told I’m quite the manly specimen on more than one occasion.”

The way I figure it, if I can't amuse myself with it, then what's the point of writing it in the first place? :)

So, pepperlandgirl4 and I managed to squeeze out the first chapter of the 2nd half of our Christmas fic before the holiday hits with full force. It's just shy of 3000 words, and it's the transition between From Heaven Above to Earth I Come and the happy, porny Spuffy. So...no real porn in this. Yet. Chapters 2 and 3, I promise. :)

Well, with our edits done, pepperlandgirl4 and I have decided to indulge in Christmas fic. Porny, happy Christmas fic. But what started out as something to merely entertain us has evolved into 2 stories, each 3 chapters long. The first of these is Wes/Faith, and the second will be Spike/Buffy, and we're going to post this over the next week or so (outside of my other updates).

Our internet was out for most of the day again. AT&T was around testing our line and modem again, because it dropped out on us over the weekend again, and Craig called to get them to expedite the issue. Turns out it's the modem, which requires us to get another one. So, I'm updating while I can, because until Craig gets a new one (and fingers crossed he brings one home with him), I risk it dropping out without notice. *sigh*

On the fanfic front...I'm going to start posting my new fic on Wednesday. I have 5 chapters done, and I imagine #6 will be done by Wednesday. Writing plot comes so much faster for me, lol. Anyway, it's called A Soul to Seduce, and is a heavily plotted, AtS S5 ensemble piece. It will have Spuffy in it, but it's also going to have Wes/Faith and Lindsey/OC. And drama. Definitely.

The inlaws arrive tomorrow. They're here for 2 1/2 months. Enough said.

Other than that, the original writing front is going strong. My vampire 3some book is practically writing itself. I have 13k already in the 12 days since I started it. Considering I've also written alomost 18k on the Spuffy fic in that same time period, I'd say things aren't going too badly right now, lol. Did the cover art questionnaire for Price of a Tattooed Soul, and everything is rolling merrily along.

And now, it's off to dinner. Hopefully the internet won't fail me tonight. :)
