A quick drive-by

The one drawback to having so many new friends in the past week is that if I get off for more than one day, things fall behind too quickly. And I don't have the time to get caught up because the reason I couldn't get on much is still present.

Said reason? My entire house is sick except for me.

Craig hasn't been feeling well since he got home from Seattle late Thursday night. Alex has been fighting a nasty cold since early in the week, sounds awful and feels worse. And Alicia has been battling elevated temps (along with the arrival of Aunt Flo in the middle of it all) in her congested, sickly state. In the midst of all that, I've been cleaning in preparation for our interview/tour later this week for the international exchange student.

Did I mention I have the first edits on my first novel with a new publisher to get through by Tuesday, too? Edits which have different house standards than any of the other publishers I've worked with? (I mean, seriously, I understand wanting to protect privacy, but adjusting the security settings on a document so that all tracked changes end up being the same color as well as by a single author makes it harder for everybody involved to figure out who the hell is doing what. I think it's one of the most asinine thing I've ever come across in edits. [The *most* asinine goes to a publisher who insisted I insert condoms into a sex scene between a) a married woman and her husband, b) who lived in the 1950s, not to mention the sex was in something c) the married heroine thought was all part of a dream anyway. I dare you to tell me that putting a condom into that scenario makes any sense at all.])

So apologies ahead of time if I end up missing your post. I don't see any of this changing in the next couple days. I still have over a third of the novel to edit, and the kids have started spring break so Alex wouldn't be going to school anyway. I might end up having to reschedule our interview/tour if people aren't improved tomorrow. Which all of us hate, but might be for the best.
